We want to make you aware of a recent change that Airbnb has forced on all property owners who list through their platform — and how it impacts both hosts and guests.
Airbnb has decided they no longer want to appear as though they’re collecting fees directly from guests. Instead, they’ve shifted those same service fees (around 15%) onto the property owners.
What this means:
Airbnb is still collecting those fees, just no longer shown as a separate charge.
The fees are now taken directly from the owners’ payout, on top of the other fees Airbnb already charges us.
As a result, owners have been forced to raise their nightly rates in order to receive the same amount they previously earned — which means you, the guest, end up paying the same total cost, just hidden in the nightly rate instead of listed as a fee.
